Assessing Writing
Each class will conduct a pre and post assessment according to the following timetable:
Term 1 - Imaginative
Term 2 - Persuassive
Term 3 - Informative
Once the assessment is complete teachers will use the Booragul Writing Rubic to mark the samples and compile using the Excel sheet provided. Teachers will meet as a stage, analyse the data and identify 2-3 areas of need. As a stage, teachers will design direct instruction lessons to target the areas of need. Additional rubrics have been designed to ensure consistency in marking and direct explicit teaching. The direct instruction teaching program will ideally be 5-6 weeks in length. At the completion of the teaching cycle teachers will complete the coresponding post assessment.
Individually, as a Stage and as a School the pre and post data will be analysed and celebrated.
Assessment Instructions
Informative texts:
- Teach your class using the Glogster prompts for 10-15mins
- Encourage students to take notes on a separate piece of paper (collect).
- Read aloud the whole PowerPoint with your class.
- Re-read with clarifying statements, allow students to ask questions. Do not give examples of ideas.
- Allow 5 minutes for planning
- Allow 5 minutes at the end to check spelling, punctuation, grammar.
- Stage 1 - 20 mins
- Stage 2 - 40 mins
- Stage 3 - 40 mins
